There are more than 500 km of marked hiking trails around Lake Achensee and in the Rofan and Karwendel Mountains – plenty of adventure tours for two- and four-legged friends.
And the best part:
Your dog is allowed to swim in the nearby Lake Achensee! The cool water is a great treat for water-loving dogs, especially in the warm summer months.
Dogs in the Karwendel
Where dog owners can go everywhere with their dogs:
- Dogs are allowed to swim in Lake Achensee
- Karwendel lift: Take it together up to the Zwölferkopf – and then take the Tunnel trail down to an altitude of 650 meters via the Rodel cabin to Pertisau.
- Dogs are allowed in the Rofan gondola – hike in the rocky landscape and take a break at the Maritzalm.
- Your dog is also allowed on the Lake Achensee boats – muzzles are compulsory here.
- You don't have to do without your faithful companion on the steam train either.

Cross-country skiing in a team
You like cross-country skiing and don't want to leave your friend behind in your hotel room? Then Lake Achensee is the right place for you, because we have a special dog trail that runs 7 km on a circuit.
You can ski here with the classic or skate technique. Dog waste bags can be found along the trail in case you forgot to bring them along.

Checklist for your dog's luggage on your holiday:
- Familiar sleeping accommodations such as a blanket or basket
- Toys + ball
- Claw clippers (for broken claws)
- A brush for long-haired dogs
- Harness or collar, leash or drag leash
- Food + treats
- Dog waste bags
- Medicine, if necessary
- Towel
- Bowl + foldable water bowl
- Dog backpack or bag for young dogs or small breeds for long hiking tours
- In winter: winter clothing + possibly paw protection (if paths have been salted, it is important to wash your dog's paws with lukewarm water)

Dogs must wear a muzzle when riding on public transportation such as bus and train.

Arrival by train:
Small dogs (not bigger than a standard house cat) often can travel free of charge on the train as long as they are in a transport box.
It can get expensive with a night train (in sleep and couchettes) because you have to book the whole compartment --> OEBB
Arriving by car with your dog
If you are travelling with your dog by car, a transport box in the trunk is the safest option.
According to the law, your dog is not allowed to ride "free" in the car and must be secured like luggage – to protect you and you four-legged friend.
